ACTIVE ADULT

BellaAge Hickory

BellaAge Hickory reimagines a historic neighborhood landmark into a vibrant 55+ community where history, design, and lifestyle intersect. Through the adaptive reuse of a former grocery store, residents enjoy 30,000 square feet of amenities that balance the character of exposed brick, murals, and wood ceilings with refined, comfortable interiors. The new residential building complements the historic fabric while offering modern apartments designed for independent living.

Located just steps from Union Square, BellaAge places residents within walking distance of shops, dining, and entertainment, while fostering connection through curated spaces such as a rooftop terrace, courtyard, library, and exhibition kitchen. More than a residence, it is an active, engaged community that embraces both the vibrancy of downtown and the comfort of home.

The amenity building transforms the once-vibrant neighborhood grocery store into the community’s main gathering space. Maintaining the original brickwork, exposed wood ceilings, and hand-painted murals, the building now sparks new life—honoring the past while providing comfort, safety, and activity for residents. The wood ceilings, carefully cleaned and treated, retain their natural warmth and texture, spanning inviting communal areas that foster openness and a sense of history. The exposed brick walls, largely left uncovered, add rustic charm and a grounded permanence to the interior design.

The new construction residence building establishes its own distinct architectural language while maintaining a respectful relationship to the amenity building. A brick base complements the historic structure, while neutral upper levels create balance. Vertical bays echo the rhythm of the amenity building and many of Hickory’s historic downtown façades. The design intent was to complement the historic context without distracting from it.

Located within walking distance of Hickory’s shops, restaurants, and movie theater, BellaAge connects residents not only to each other but to the thriving downtown scene just outside their doors. It is a one-of-a-kind experience for those seeking an active lifestyle with strong ties to both community and history.
