broad ripple park family center

Broad Ripple Village, a cultural district inside of Indianapolis, has a rich history of community dating back to the mid-1800s. Broad Ripple Park is a 62-acre park abutting the White River on the northeast side of the village. It has long since provided the people of Broad Ripple a place to gather for active family engagement. The park has been a stalwart of the community since the early 20th century, including amenities such as a swimming pool, tennis courts, baseball diamonds, playgrounds, picnic shelters, boat ramp and – at one point early in its inception – an amusement park. Today, Broad Ripple Park serves upwards of 300,000 people annually through the wide variety of programs offered there. The family center began to be reimagined in 2016 as part of a broader beautification project initiated by the Broad Ripple Village Association. As part of that master plan, Avenue Development was honored to take part in the redevelopment of the Family Center in conjunction with Indy Parks and Community Health Network.

The family center includes a full-court gymnasium, indoor running/walking track, multi-purpose and meeting rooms, flex lobby space, administrative offices, group fitness and education spaces, restrooms, showers, locker rooms and an indoor play structure. The medical office component includes exam and consult rooms, physical therapy and imaging specialty rooms.

Natural light and open area for gathering takes center stage here at the entry to the Family Park Center. Gathering and community for all ages are the paramount objectives the design team sought in crafting this space. Crossover and shared services, such as the track and gym, allow physicians from Community Health Network to have access to physical therapy activity areas for their patients without having to leave the building. Unparalleled views of White River and the park will help draw the community into a wide variety of group fitness classes and activities for all different age groups. Stacked below the Group Fitness Space, a multipurpose room has adjacency to a hospitality kitchen and restrooms, making it ideal for planned events, parties or meetings.
