RENOVATION / REPOSITIONING

Someren Glen

Over the course of three years, Someren Glen underwent a comprehensive interior renovation that transformed every resident apartment and amenity space within the community. Owned and operated by Christian Living Communities (CLC), this Independent Living and Assisted Living community was reimagined to better serve its residents while maintaining the warmth and character that make it feel like home.

The exterior of the building, with its timeless brick façade, remained untouched, allowing the budget to focus on creating impactful interior updates.   Aneka Interiors, the design team on the project, collaborated closely with CLC leadership, staff, and residents to understand how spaces were being used—and how they could be improved. The goal was to reposition underutilized areas, enhance functionality, and create a fresh, welcoming environment that supports both resident engagement and operational efficiency.

Library Before | After

Several key spaces were thoughtfully reimagined. A large, open area with many columns was transformed into a bright and inviting grab-and-go market. An existing wide corridor was converted into a resident mail hub, complete with new casework and countertops, encouraging casual interactions as residents collect their mail in a spacious, comfortable setting.

The temperate California climate also encourages an indoor/outdoor lifestyle, inspiring our members to enjoy
outdoor dining and lounging next to the fireplace in our courtyard.

Dining Before | After

One of the most impactful changes was the transformation of the community’s central fireplace. The original two-story stone feature had a small firebox that blocked sightlines and natural light from reaching the beautiful patio beyond. The design team replaced it with a dramatic, two-sided, cool-to-the-touch fireplace insert, opening up views to the courtyard from the main lobby. On the opposite side, the gathering area’s wall of doors and windows was reconfigured to include larger openings, creating a seamless connection to the outdoor patio and inviting residents to enjoy Colorado’s abundant sunshine.

Designed to offer each member an elevated and engaged life, including the Elegant Palmer Library and Lobby.

Residence Before | After

The main dining room was redefined with the addition of a screen wall that softened the impact of numerous structural columns, resulting in a more intimate and pleasant dining experience. The art and craft room received bright new lighting and functional storage, enabling it to become a lively hub where residents—particularly a dedicated group of knitters—gather to make hats and gloves for children in need.
