taylor community

Taylor Community is a long-standing senior living provider in the Lakes Region of New Hampshire. In 2001, Taylor built 24 independent living cottages on 33 acres in the Back Bay area of Wolfeboro, a centuries-old summer resort community on Lake Winnipesaukee. As Taylor grew in other locations, it became apparent that the Back Bay area was a premium location, but residents were left with no options for a continuum of care as they aged and their needs changed. The concept of adding care levels to this location was well-thought out, it would add a continuum of care that could be accessed by all Taylor residents. The existing independent-living cottage neighborhood was bucolic and quiet with acreage available for construction. The resulting community adds assisted living, memory care and intermediate nursing care which is available to cottage residents at this site, as well as residents of Taylor Community’s two other nearby communities.

The clean lines of the painted shiplap wall paneling and colorful local art, together with warm woods and wrought lighting create a comfortable, welcoming ambiance as residents and guests enter the building.

Once inside, residents and visitors can gather in the gracious Lobby lounge around the warm fireplace with views beyond of the tree-lined site. Enjoy a beverage from the coffee bar while enjoying conversation, assembling for trips, and meeting friends.

At the end of each AL wing is a window-lined sunroom. The third-floor sunroom, with windows on three sides, feels like a treehouse for grown-ups. It’s a serene space, popular for morning coffee and conversation. The views are of the tree line, with the majestic White Mountains in the distance.

The library is full of comfortable nooks for reading, games or puzzles, and conversation. The book collection is managed by retired librarian residents who manage, curate and catalog donations from incoming residents. Many residents arrive with vast book collections, the shelves are expected to be filled within a few months.

This two-chair hair salon with manicure station provides convenient personal care for all residents. The light-filled space has a contemporary design with easy-to-maintain surfaces and whimsical art.

Other amenities include a PT/OT gym, wellness suite, spa bathing and outdoor raised garden beds.

A quarantine-ready visiting room, accessible from the front porch and also from the interior, was a strong part of the design conversation in 2020 and was incorporated into the final design.

On the lower level, the main dining room walks out to a patio dining area featuring a grilling station and generous seating. Inside, a double fireplace adds ambiance while a buffet station adds a multi-purpose dimension to the space. Memory Care and Immediate-Care Nursing (ICN) are stacked on the first and second floors with identical floor plans including central dining/activity areas. On the first floor, memory care dining walks out to a secure courtyard featuring comfortable seating and meandering pathways. Second floor dining has an outdoor deck that overlooks the gardens below and the view in the distance. The very popular accessible height counter seating provides conversation opportunities between staff and residents.
