The Heritage at Brentwood embarked on a multi-phase campus repositioning with a central focus on revitalizing its underutilized marketplace. Once a bustling hub, the space had grown outdated and lost its appeal as newer amenities emerged. The vision was to transform it into a vibrant, café-style venue—now the Corner Market—to foster connection, independence, and convenience for residents, families, and staff.
Situated at a prominent corridor intersection, the existing footprint posed spatial and functional challenges. The design team overcame these by maximizing every square inch, integrating retail and food service seamlessly within a compact area. Drawing inspiration from historic town boutique cafés and markets, the new Corner Market blends traditional architectural detailing with modern touches—custom millwork, a welcoming café counter, and playful yet elegant patterns—to create a destination that feels both fresh and familiar.

Corner’s Market Before | After

The goal was to design more than a dining venue; it needed to evoke warmth, charm, and a sense of place. The layout supports a variety of experiences, including casual coffee meetups, light meals, grab-and-go options, and impromptu intergenerational visits. Comfortable booth seating, layered lighting, and curated accessories, such as cookbooks and vintage-inspired items, elevate the space and promote a sense of home.
The temperate California climate also encourages an indoor/outdoor lifestyle, inspiring our members to enjoy
outdoor dining and lounging next to the fireplace in our courtyard.

Aesthetic choices were aligned with the community’s upscale brand. A light, energetic color palette enlivens the environment and coordinates with existing finishes. Signature features, including a floral wallcovering, boutique-style display shelving, and integrated digital menu boards, contribute to the Corner Market’s character and functionality.
Designed to offer each member an elevated and engaged life, including the Elegant Palmer Library and Lobby.
