Located in the heart of the vibrant North Hills District of Raleigh, Kisco Senior Living expanded their Cardinal community with a new 18-story tower consisting of 151 Independent Living residences (including 5 penthouses) and 40 Assisted Living residences. Maintaining the inclusive atmosphere of the community was of high importance, not only between the existing campus and the new Tower, but also among the mix of residents with different needs and expectations. Residents of all care levels, as well as those from the existing campus, have access to the new amenities provided in the Tower. A key design element unifying both the existing community and the new Tower is the central Courtyard, along with the linear dining venue directly connected to the Courtyard with a covered patio. “Bring the outdoors in” became the obvious concept, especially with the expectation of biophilia design and the overall message of wellness and well-being in senior living. The design emphasizes the outdoors and integration with nature by providing direct access to the outdoors and using natural finishes and materials on the inside. Wood and stone are mixed with soft organic forms and textures. A lush, two-story living green wall is the main feature in the lobby and sends a strong message of wellness.
Integration with nature is emphasized with the use of natural finishes and materials along with direct access to the outdoors. The entry lobby features back-lit laser cut panels that emulate dappled sunlight through a tree canopy. A two-story live green wall provides a strong message of wellness and well-being.
The Indigo Lounge serves as a social hub that connects dining and the outdoor patio. Custom sliding partitions provide privacy with visual connection.
The Central Courtyard provides outdoor “rooms” to encourage social opportunities.
The 4th floor Assisted Living (AL) Living Room invites residents to settle in with friends to watch the game read a book by the fire, or play a challenging board game.
Dining adjacent to the Courtyard is multi-functional and remains open during non-dining hours, providing a place where the entire community can gather. The lounge and dining areas have direct access to the central Courtyard, and the large bi-fold windows directly connect the bar to the patio. Large windows on upper floors offer stunning views, open floor plans welcome in natural light, and all elevator lobbies have windows for continued connection to daylight.
New amenities and common areas are for all residents, fostering a sense of community and connection. The Family Room is a dedicated area for gathering and entertaining. The Covered Terrace adds outdoor options. The Library serves as a quiet refuge to read or play. The Discovery Room serves as an introduction to new and prospective residents and is located off the lobby. The Club Lounge is a premium space and also connects to the Outdoor Terrace.
The Tower elevates contemporary senior living to new levels of luxury with the option of Premium and Penthouse units, some exceeding 3,500 square feet. With 151 independent living and 40 assisted living residences, residents can choose from several one-, two-, and three-bedroom floor plans, including club level and penthouse options.
